Believe it or not, I haven't always been a cat person! No, seriously! As a child we always had dogs and it was only when I left home to get married (to a real 'cat man') that I became a 'cat lady' (not quite a mad one back then!) So in 1977, when kittens and puppies were still being sold in pet shops (and there just happened to be a pet shop right opposite where we lived - oh dear!) 3 jet black kittens Sophie, Schweppes (don't ask!) and Sherry came into our lives and I was hooked. We had one of those old fashioned cottage style sofas, suitably enough, as we lived in a very old cottage, and I remember that Schweppes would sit and keep watch on the world from the top of a small round cake tin which lived underneath the sofa (not sure why we kept a cake tin under the sofa - especially as it usually contained biscuits!).
Anyway, Sherry left us far too young, sadly killed on the road, but both Sophie and Schweppes lived into their early teens, with us during several house moves, many life other changes, and the addition of plenty more cats along the way. I'll never forget them, my very first cats and the beginning of my journey into the world of cats.

Sadly, no pictures of Schweppes sitting on her cake tin - but I'm happy to say, I still have that cake tin, which was already very old in 1977, and here it is today, a tad rustier (aren't we all?!) than 38 yrs ago but still serving its purpose..........
